Anxiety

Anxiety treatment in Thousand Oaks at Ventura Wellness Behavioral Health is built for people whose worry, panic or dread has started to run the day. We treat anxiety in structured outpatient programs, so you get real clinical intensity and still sleep in your own bed. If anxiety is keeping you from work, school, relationships or simply leaving the house, we can help.

Everyone feels nervous sometimes. An anxiety disorder is different: the fear is out of proportion to the situation, it lasts for weeks or months, and it starts shaping your choices. You skip the meeting, cancel the trip, avoid the phone call. Over time the world gets smaller. The good news is that anxiety disorders respond well to treatment, and most people can learn to manage them with the right mix of therapy, skills and, when appropriate, medication.

Anxiety Treatment in Thousand Oaks, CA

Our outpatient anxiety program serves adults from Thousand Oaks, Westlake Village and the rest of Ventura County. You can attend in person at our office at 509 Marin St, Suite 126, Thousand Oaks, CA 91360, join virtually from anywhere in California, or combine both. A substance use diagnosis is not required. Many of our clients come to us for anxiety alone.

Within your first three days you’ll have an individualized treatment plan, written with your dedicated therapist and reviewed every week. You’ll also see a member of our psychiatric team during your first week, and a case manager helps with the practical side: work notes, school accommodations, insurance and aftercare.

Types of Anxiety We Treat

Anxiety shows up in different forms, and treatment works best when it matches the pattern. We regularly work with:

  • Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD): constant, hard-to-control worry about health, money, family or work.
  • Panic disorder: sudden surges of fear with a racing heart, shortness of breath or a sense of doom, plus fear of the next attack.
  • Social anxiety disorder: intense fear of being judged that makes meetings, classes or social plans feel impossible.
  • Specific phobias and agoraphobia: avoidance of places or situations that feel unsafe or hard to escape.
  • Anxiety alongside other conditions: anxiety often travels with depression, PTSD or substance use, and we treat them together.

Signs Your Anxiety Needs More Than Weekly Therapy

A one-hour session a week helps many people. It isn’t always enough. Consider a more structured level of care if you notice:

  • Panic attacks several times a week, or a constant fear of having one
  • Missing work or school, or avoiding driving, stores or people
  • Poor sleep, muscle tension, stomach problems or headaches that doctors link to stress
  • Using alcohol, cannabis or pills to calm down
  • Outpatient therapy or medication that hasn’t made enough of a difference

How We Treat Anxiety Disorders

Our clinicians use therapies with strong research behind them for anxiety. Your plan will draw on several of these, depending on what drives your symptoms:

  • Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT): you learn to catch anxious predictions, test them against the facts and replace them with more accurate thoughts. Gradual exposure helps you face avoided situations in small, planned steps.
  • Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) skills: practical tools for riding out intense emotion without making things worse.
  • Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT): instead of fighting every anxious thought, you learn to make room for it and still act on what matters to you.
  • EMDR: useful when anxiety is rooted in past trauma or frightening experiences.

You’ll work one on one with your therapist in individual therapy and practice skills with peers in group therapy, where many people find out for the first time that they aren’t the only ones. If medication could help, our psychiatric providers handle evaluation and follow-up through medication management. Breathwork, yoga and sound baths round out the day and give your nervous system a chance to settle.

PHP, IOP and Virtual Anxiety Treatment

We match the level of care to how much anxiety is affecting your life right now, and we adjust as you improve.

Morning, afternoon and evening tracks make it easier to fit treatment around a job or family. How long you stay depends on your progress, not a fixed calendar.

Insurance for Anxiety Treatment

We’re in network with many major plans, including Aetna, Cigna, Blue Shield of California, Kaiser, Tricare and UnitedHealthcare/Optum. What you pay depends on your plan. Our admissions team can run a free benefits check, usually the same day, and explain your coverage in plain terms. You can verify your insurance online, and if you need help with costs, ask us about financing options.

Anxiety Treatment FAQs

Do I need a diagnosis before I contact you?

No. Many people call simply because worry or panic is getting in the way of life. During intake, our clinicians complete an assessment, clarify what’s going on and recommend a level of care. If you already have a diagnosis from a doctor or therapist, we’re happy to review those records with your permission.

Will I have to take medication for anxiety?

Not necessarily. Therapy alone works well for many people with anxiety. Our psychiatric team will talk through options with you, and if medication seems likely to help, you’ll decide together. You’re always part of that decision, and any prescription is monitored and adjusted during treatment.

Can I keep working while in your anxiety program?

Often, yes. Our IOP runs about three hours a day, with morning, afternoon and evening options, so many clients keep their job or classes. If you need PHP, which is more time-intensive, your case manager can help with leave paperwork or accommodations.

Is virtual anxiety treatment as effective as in-person care?

For many people, yes. Our virtual program uses the same therapists, structure and therapies as our in-person program. Some clients start virtually because leaving home feels hard, then shift to in-person sessions in Thousand Oaks as they build confidence. We’ll help you choose the format that fits you best.

How quickly can I start?

Our admissions team is available 24/7, and a same-day or next-day start is often possible once your assessment and insurance check are done. Call us and we’ll walk you through each step, from the first conversation to your first day in the program.
